The Bird Choir is a performance and installation made by composer Sandra Boss and ceramist Katrine Würtz. The work consists of 30+ handmade ceramic bird flutes. The birds are filled with water and played automatically through a MIDI-controlled air blower system. The result is an apocalyptic choir of birds where whistles, calls, drones and and screams mix with each other in a tuneless lament.
The work is inspired by the bird migration that exists near the coast lines of Denmark. Because of an increasingly milder climate in Denmark, some bird species will soon become rare and may disappear completely, while new species will arrive as breeding birds from the south. But who are these birds? How do they sound and what do they tell us?
